Last Saturday a piece of my heart broke. I think there was an audible crack when I heard that a dear friend passed away very suddenly. All I could think was that the world had lost one of the good ones far too early, again. The shock and anger I felt really kicked me in the gut, but after Janice’s memorial today, I realise how thankful I am that I knew her and that I’ve got people like her in my life.
I met Janice in my first AmDram production in 2008 and, largely because of her kindness and good spirit, I’ve kept coming back to the theatre and to acting. Without AmDram in my life, so many amazing things wouldn’t have happened.
With AmDram, I get to be on stage and act and live out a part of my dream.
Every time a production moves into the Masque Theatre, I feel like I’m coming home again.
I get to make new friends. Each cast becomes a family really and the end of each production is bitter sweet.
Today marks 100 days until the kick off at this year’s Rugby World Cup. Any die hard rugby supporter should be happy about this day. In fact, in South Africa, we’ve been encouraged to wear our Springbok Rugby jerseys in support of our boys
I’m wearing mine with pride!
In commemoration of the build up, I thought I’d make a list of all the things I’ve learnt while supporting the Bokke:
So GO FOR IT, BOKKE!!!! We’re with you every step of the way!!!

So I got April Fooled yesterday… twice… It was actually quite fun, I haven’t been April Fooled in years. In fact the last time I recall being successfully Fooled was when I was about 8 and my nanny told me that my best friend was standing at the top of the drive way and wanted to come in. I couldn’t see Meghan but apparently she was up there waving and calling me to let her in. Florence had me going for about 10 minutes.
Back to 2011. First of all the Gareth Cliff show on 5fm got me with their F1 story. I don’t know why I believed it, usually I see the April Fools news stories coming a mile off. Maybe I really wanted to believe this one (F1 coming to SA would be AWESOME!!!), or maybe I was over-tired and it was Friday… Anyway, no more excuses, I fell for it hook, line and sinker. But at least I had the good graces (and sense) to poke fun at myself on Twitter the moment I realised my mistake. And hats off to the morning show team for selling that story so well, from what I saw on Twitter you fooled a lot of people
Now onto the big Fool! My dear friend Jono decided it would be fun to mess with us and tell us that our flight to Zanzibar had been cancelled and the only flight we could get was the day before we were due to return from said tropical paradise. And thanks to his co-conspirator, Lynne (and I have a sneaky suspicion Kelly helped!), he was incredibly successful. Lynne gave him the flight details and everything so he sounded very legitimate. Apparently they got Robyn first and she was nearly in tears. Then they all turned on me… Thanks guys
All I can say is, I’m glad I worked it out and didn’t have to be told… And sorry Jono, I may have called you a bastard when I figured out it was you on the phone. It was a brilliant prank and I am still giggling about it
I love having friends who love me enough to play practical jokes on me!
