I’m not sure why, but this is one of my absolute favourite songs :)

I have it on a CD playing in my car right now and it always brings a smile to my face.

1 Comment Cape Town and the weather

Article written by the brilliant on the 16 Jan 2012 in Just Saying

Dear people who’ve never lived in Cape Town

I’m sorry that you have to hear us complaining about scorching heat and gorgeous summer days only a short while after we were bitching about the cold yet breathtaking storms. Unfortunately, that’s our thing.

London has complaining about foreigners. China and North Korea has complaining about freedom (well, at least they would if they knew they weren’t free). Australia has… Well I don’t know what Australia has, probably something to do with New Zealand having more sheep than they do…

But I digress, complaining about the weather is just what we do in Cape Town. Without it, we wouldn’t know what to do (aside from complaining about drivers with number plates that don’t start with CA).

No Comments Looking back on 2011

Article written by the brilliant on the 29 Dec 2011 in Just Saying

The year that was…

Well, it certainly was better than 2010 in many ways. For one, I don’t remember hearing my mom say bitterly that she wished this year would just end already – that is always a good thing.

So what happened in 2011?

The highlights:

Zanzi-frikkin-bar

Zanzibar Hunters Refresher Session

I got a good job

Purple Cow 6th birthday

I was sent roses anonymously on Valentines Day – still don’t know who sent them

Roses

The heartaches:

I said farewell to a friend I loved dearly when she passed away suddenly in July

I got my heart broken a little

And the lessons learnt:

Sometimes going out for lunch can end up being more than you bargained for…

But with good friends, you can survive anything

Roll on 2012, I’m ready for you!

No Comments A strongly worded letter to the Mayans

Article written by the brilliant on the 18 Dec 2011 in Just Saying

Mayan CalendarDear ancient Mayans

I must say, I’m rather disappointed by this whole “end of the world on 21 December 2012″ thing. First of all, it spawned that rather banal movie about the world being destroyed rather suddenly. It really was just one exhausting chase sequence that lasted well over an hour and was interesting for maybe 5 minutes of that time.

Aside from that, why 4 days before Christmas? Surely we could get 1 more Christmas in before KA-BLOOWEY?

And finely, my main issue with the whole world ending next year – you couldn’t wait 8 more days? It has to happen a week before my birthday?

I’ve already had to deal with the fact that most people are away on my birthday every year and with getting given birthday-slash-Christmas presents. And now you want me to not have my crown birthday? (I’m supposed to turn 28 on the 28th in 2012 and I wanted to wear a crown for my birthday.)

So please, if you could, don’t end the world on 21 December 2012. Aside from the fact that I want to have my birthday next year, I also quite like the world – it’s my home and it would be inconvenient if it were no longer around.

okthanksbye,

Faeron

No Comments Bye bye brother

Article written by the brilliant on the 05 Dec 2011 in Just Saying

Don’t you sometimes get the feeling that you wish things wouldn’t happen quite so quickly? We all wish for change, but when the big stuff actually gets here… Well I feel the need to run for the hills, or worse, all the way back to high school, even though I hated a large part of high school. Of course, I’d want to go back knowing what I know now – that things were simpler and easier then, that you could have big dreams for the future but there was no scary need to act on them.

Now, I’m not actually a big chicken. I went to London on my own at 18 after school even though I was terrified. I’ve also pursued my dream of acting and refuse to be discouraged. Things have changed along the way, but I still manage to go after what I want.

No, the reason for this post is because I’m frightened by the change that is about to hit. My brother and his girlfriend are moving to Germany at the end of the month. I always knew he would go one day, but I always hoped it wouldn’t be now. One day sounds better than now when it comes to your only sibling moving to another continent.

Why is he going? I’m not sure. I suppose, why not? My family have never been the stay behind and keep the home fires burning types. If they had been, my brother and I would never have been born! My parents are from different parts of the UK and if they hadn’t left home, they would’ve never met.

I guess I’m just going to miss him more than I care to admit. Especially since he’s been living on the same property as me for over a year now. I’m used to him being so close. And I don’t like not knowing when I’ll see him again.

And now look at all the times I’ve used the word “I” in this post! Ok, all I really want to say is: he’s my brother, he drives me nuts sometimes, but I love him and I will miss having him here. Thank dog for the Internet and social media and Skype!

Safe travels big brother!
