No Comments Thor

Well, I’ll admit, I’d had some cocktails before heading into the cinema, so that may cloud my judgement on this topic…

The film was pretty crap, but I still really enjoyed it! I was expecting absolutely nothing and thankfully I’m blessed with being able to enjoy kinda crappy action movies.

There was very little script/plot (but did anyone expect any?) And Natalie Portman’s plot line was rather superfluous. I know, I know, Thor needed his human love interest, and Natalie needed her “OMG I can’t believe she did that after winning an Oscar” movie. But still…

I was also quite disappointed in Lady Sif. She could have been way more bad ass! She had one moment that was almost really cool but it passed very quickly.

Now 3D… Not a fan. Our cinemas aren’t eqipped to give us the full effect of 3D and also too many films, like this one, are filmed to be viewed in 3D and 2D. Conventional film techniques DO NOT work in 3D. They just don’t! You can’t have objects in the foreground of your 3D picture that are out of focus. And you can’t rack focus either. If you have full 3D perspective you have to give the viewer everything in focus or it completely detracts from the whole experience. I really thought the use of 3D in Thor was a complete waste of time (and I find those glasses very uncomfortable).

But ladies, if you do watch it in 3D, look out for a moment when Thor has his top off! 3D definition was so worth it then!!!

Go watch this movie if you enjoy leave-your-brain-outside action films. But don’t waste your money on the 3D version.
